Quick Start Guide

Welcome to WM Recorder!

WM Recorder is incredibly easy to use. You can make your first recording of almost any Windows Media™ video or audio stream in minutes.

(Click here for a printable version of this guide.)

If you've just installed WM Recorder, it is now running on your PC. It appears as follows:

If WM Recorder is not yet open, you'll need to close all open Internet Explorer browser windows before running it. To open WM Recorder, click the WM Recorder icon on your Windows desktop.

Here's how to make your first recording:

  1. Click the Record button. (Be sure to do this BEFORE you start playing a clip to record!) The Record button changes to a Stop button, as you see here:

  2. Using your browser, play the Windows Media video or audio you want to record. (A great place to start is the WindowsMedia.com Web site.)
  3. Return to WM Recorder and click Stop when the clip has finished playing. This ends the recording.

Here's how to play the recording:

  1. Click Play. A dialog like this appears:

  2. Double-click on the clip to play. The clip will start playing in Windows Media Player.

Clips are named automatically. If WM Recorder cannot determine the name of the clip, it names it New 001.asf, New 002.asf, etc.

OK -- you're an expert now. Start making your own recordings!
